Krypta Night and Daring Heights!

This interview is the second in a series of profiles to be featured on this page about our lovely and talented Mondo Wrestling Ago-Go performers. Krypta Night soars higher than Super Man in her aerial acts. Find out more about what gives her wings.

Krypta Night loves daring heights!

Mondo Ago-Go: What first attracted you to doing aerials? What was the first aerial apparatus you learned?
Krypta Night: I took a circus class in Jan 2010 where I was exposed to lyra (aerial hoop), trapeze, rope, and silks. I fell in love with Spanish web (aerial rope with a loop at the top) right away when I climbed up 20 feet, stuck my wrist in the loop and was spun really fast. I loved being that high up. It felt amazing!

MAG: Have you ever been afraid of heights?
KN:I am not seriously afraid of heights but have a healthy respect, knowing I can die if I am not super focused.

MAG: What is the height of the highest aerial performance you have ever done.
KN: At the Grand we were rigged at 32 feet. But my rope is 23 feet. I’ve trained in Chicago at close to 30 feet.

MAG: What are all the aerial arts you can do? Which one is your favorite and why?
KN: I specialize in Corde Lisse (aerial rope), Spanish web, lyra, and pole. I’m tackling trapeze next.

MAG: How did you pick your name?
KN: An army man gave me the nickname “Krypto” because he said I “make men weak”. I changed it to a more feminine “Krypta” (which also sounds like cryptic) and added “Night” for the mysterious aspect of the night.

MG: What would you tell someone who is interested in learning aerials?
KN: It is a lot harder than it looks. You must start with your natural ability and then add a consistent, determined work ethic. Be prepared to be very frustrated and spend a lot of time working on one trick. Patience is definitely a virtue in aerials. And know that a 3 minute routine is challenging.

MG: What do you hope to accomplish in 2012 with the group?
KN: I want to find an indoor training facility to train longer and harder and grow as an aerial performer to be sought out for regular aerial performances. This is my love and what I work so hard to do. Maybe in 2012 people will recognize me and my name.

Hanging Out with Soul Fire Bay

This interview is the first part in a series of profiles to be featured on this page about our lovely and talented Mondo Wrestling Ago-Go performers. Soul Fire Bay is a amazing aerial artist and contortionist who bends and twists with the greatest of ease! You’ll get to know her a little better in this article.

Mondo Ago-Go: It’s not every day that you meet a contortionist! What got you into contortion?
Soul Fire Bay: Since as long as I can remember, I have had a gift for extreme flexibility. I use to scare my mother to death by bending backwards and doing a back flip over my head as a toddler. She enrolled me in gymnastics when I was four and I progressed from there.

MAG: You’re also an aerial artist. Tell us a little about how contortion and aerials complement each other.
SFB: In aerial art you must be flexible in order to control the aerial equipment while at the same time remembering to move gracefully and fluidly.

MAG: What is your favorite part of performing?
SFB: My favorite part of performing is bringing my imagination to life, bringing forth my passions and displaying my vision before the audience. I create another world to live in for that moment.

MAG: Contortion, aerial net or pole dancing? Which one is your favorite and why?
SFB: Contortion is my natural born gift and the one that most enhances what I am blessed with; although I have come to love aerials…so I don’t have a favorite, really.

MAG: Tell us about how you chose the name Soul Fire Bay?
SFB: “What lies within her Soul that can bring her to bay; it is the fire that burns inside her, the power if bay.”
SoulFire is the burning passion and love in my heart that I put into my performances and my life. San Francisco Bay is where I am from and is where the heart is.

MAG: MG: What is the strangest performance you’ve ever done?
SFB: Strangest? Lol. That’s too hard! I’m Soulfire Bay! How about favorite? That would be Lacore Valmon Circus. We took it back to the birth of circus art, when contortionists were known as Snake Goddesses because they could bend and twist like snakes. I performed with a 15 ft boa constrictor surrounded by fire.

MG: What do you hope to accomplish in 2012 as a performer?
SFB: In 2012 I will begin the year with two music video premiers and a movie role. Terri Kendall (Krypta Nite ), the talented corda leis and Spanish web aerial performer, and I will begin our aerial duet performances with new equipment (not giving away the surprises yet)! I will be retaking the gymnastics floor and incorporating more acrobatics into my acts. I will also be auditioning for Carmen Electra’s cabaret and several circus performance theaters across the nation while continuing to work with the Mondo Ago Go Variety Show. I’m excited to see what else will fill the year.

MAG: Do you have a message you would like to give to your fans?
SFB: I want my fans to know that they should never think they aren’t good enough to achieve their dreams. I have gone through and overcome a lot in the past 10 years and I am thinking about writing an autobiography soon. Everyone was born into this world with a gift and we must hone in on it. Focus with the passion in your heart on your dreams and never give up. That’s what living and the key to happiness are truly about.

Here’s a very special act from Soul Fire Bay for you to enjoy! Come see her perform live, at the Magnolia Bar on December 15!
